NeonQi

Samantha Nianqi Forkin is a multidisciplinary artist currently living in California where she received her BA in Studio Art from Fresno State University. At the center of Sam’s work is the wish to create connections and to ask questions on identity. With an interest in technology and nature and their intersections, she uses these concepts to explore ideas on the development of oneself and our relation to our environments. Particularly drawn to this subject due to her identity as a Chinese adoptee in which comes a complex understanding of things that also informs her explorations. The inspirations from technology and nature is realized through a loose, painterly style paired with a bright and cool palette that creates a seemingly artificial yet dreamy depth to her work.

It feels very easy to fall into random expectations I put on myself and end up with nothing from that. It feels like Oh I remember why I do art, because I like it and there are many things that are important to me that I want to share. Learning to really be able to listen to yourself and what you want to do is a challenge but worth it ☆

Another painting that I have neglected to share. Oops. But also another painting that is important in shaping my work. . Really it’s a painting for introverts. Being alone gives me time to recharge, reflect, and cherish everything I’ve gotten to experience. So it’s a look into my room which feels like an anchor I can return to. It’s become less about the actual physical space and instead a feeling I take with me. A very important painting to me that I haven’t posted, I guess now is a good enough time to share it here? I find it hard to find all of the words to explain my work and the thoughts I put behind it. . To just share a bit, this painting is ultimately about connection and searching for it.
